Hindi Films, all aspects

I have known Jayaraman S for about 20 years. Yesterday, on seeing the post on the filmography update he wrote,

"What is the guarantee that yr inputs are cent percent correct?"

Answer: Sadly, nobody can guarantee that. I know that there are errors and omissions. I am hoping that knowledgeable people like Jay will help us improve the database.

We know that updating it is a never-ending process. To wit, just this morning I saw a post by Richard Singer, who identified the dancer in a song in Waris (1954) as Roshan Kumari! [I could not recognize her leading to a blank entry.] Thanks to him, I have updated the database. we need more people like him!

If you have been visiting the Database Website, you may have noticed that we have been adding Volume III (1951-1960) filmography information.

We are happy to report that it is complete for now. [The Song picturization information for this decade, about 3,500 songs, is also being readied, will be up soon.]

If one compares the information with the published volume HFGK V III (Edition Second, April 1997), these changes will be apparent.

1. 'Hamraaz' has been receiving additions and corrections from people all over the world, they are included.

2. We have watched about 450 film videos that we have, to look for uncredited cast members, information from those have been added.

3. Upendra Samaranayake has published two books on Junior Artist filmographies, that information has been added.

4. Edwina has published a book on her co-dancers, information from that has been added.

Now You Know!

Started in 1999 for songs. Most people had songs from the 78 RPMs, so I decided to upload songs from video. The first film was Devdas (1935). Found a 45 second song that very few had heard before because no record was issued and film was hard to get. Soon other people started contributing. I was surprised that people did not know how character artists looked like, Jagdish Kanwal, Chandabai etc. So, I put up about 200 images of such forgotten people. On surfing the net I found this book about 40s actresses, Filmi Titliyan, I put up a pdf and later some magazines also.

Recently, I re-vamped the Main page.
