This commemorative, released on the occasion of the RMIM Meet (Portland, September 23-25), is a modest effort at celebrating the genius of composer Salil Chowdhury. The CD set was prepared by Guri, Malini & Vish, for song selection, Balaji helped with production. We are eternally grateful to Aloka Nanjappa (daughter) for her first-hand narrative of her father's musical and professional associations, and to Gautam Chowdhury for his acclaimed, exhaustive research and technical insights into the maestro's work and times. Our thanks for both of them for spending so many quality hours to make this commemorative happen. [In case you don't know, Gautam runs the definitive site dedicated to the MD Gautam's website ]. Continuing the posting of RMIM Commemoratives in no particular order. I have not attended all of them. They go way back. The Google group is here. You can read about the old meetings and see some photos on the facebook RMIM page here. Look for the docs on the right. I think by now everybody knows that RMIM is the mother of all discussion groups of its kind on the Internet having started in January 1992. Face-to-face meetings started soon after. We start with the CD presented at

Usually at RMIM meets there is distributed a commemorative collection of songs. RMIMers have been doing it for more than 10 years now. At the recent west coast (of USA) meet, an mp3 CD of 100 songs (one song per MD) was distributed by Parag Sankla. He did that in order to "bring out the diversity, range and depth of" her work. According to him, many people are led to believe that Geeta "sang mostly/only for Burmanda, Nayyar sahab and Hemantda". Of course, RMIMers and readers of the monumental and pioneering Hindi Film Geet Kosh has known for ages that that is not true. He made a post about it on his world-famous Geeta Dutt blog.  Parag was kind enough to send me a copy. I will be posting about 10 songs a day from the CD.
