Hindi Films, all aspects

Indurani (1922-2012) was a star of Mohan Pictures and had films with Prem Adib and Jayant etc. I wrote a book on her based on interviews with her family and film booklets of movies. The book has more than 80 never before seen images of films, posters and ads. More info here

Indurani: An Unsung But Unforgettable Heroine Of The Early Talkies

Unfortunately, none of starring films are available, but we do have a clip of her brief appearance in Prabhat's Marathi feature Savitri (1936)

She passed way on Feb 18, 2012. She celebrated her 80th birthday in 2002 and did a brief dance. We have that clip thanks for her family, specially her son, Salim Shah

Bharat 24 Lata Md Shafi

As far as I can tell the first international film festival was held in Venice in 1932.

The festival is still very active. From their website

The first "Esposizione d'Arte Cinematografica" came into being in 1932 as part of the 18th Venice Biennale (from 6 July to 21 August 1932) under the auspices of Count Giuseppe Volpi di Misurata, President of the Biennale, the sculptor Antonio Maraini, General Secretary, and Luciano De Feo, General Secretary of the International Institute for Educational Cinema, based in Rome. Luciano De Feo was the very first director-selector.

It was earlier called The Exhibition of the Cinematic Arts, now simply The Venice Film Festival.

In the second festival held in 1934, they invited the Indian film industry to send information about the industry, films to be shown and photos.

It was here that the first ever Indian film to win an international honorary diploma was shown, Seeta (1933).

I will be posting some photos from the festival report.

The next photo is that of Madhuri.

Happy Heavenly Birthday to Edwina!

I had been wanting to find out who she is since 1966, when I saw her in that famous song, 'O Haseenaa Zulfonvaalee' from Teesri Manzil.

Then on January 22, 2010, the mystery was solved when her brother Terence Lyons's son Steve wrote a comment on the blog memsaabstory run by Greta Kaemmer:

My Father is Ted Lyons and that was his band in the Bollywood Movies…
All my family are were in the Industry and My Aunty at the time was a up and coming Choreographer… She worked alot with a very famous dancer called Helen and all the well known artist in the 50’s and 60’s..
I would love to hear back from you.. this is very exciting and Dad was so happy that he saw this website….
His real Name is Terence Lyons…
Thank you for putting this site up…:)
