I knew about the silent and talkie star with this name, having read about him in Hindi Film Geet Kosh and other books. So when I saw the name in Aurat (1940) as an Assistant Recordist, I wondedred if he is the same person. The Encyclopedia of Indian Cinema has a very detailed entry on him, but sadly is silent about this matter.

I asked many friends, some said the two are different, others said he is the same.

Finally, I saw the proof that he is the same man in Filmfare, Oct 2, 1964.

Meet Report.

SP arrived at about 10 am. SS said I have known you since the mid-90s but do not know much about you. So, SP gave brief summary of his autobiography.

Then the discussion turned to Indian film scene in the 30s and 40s, where SP educated SS about the early Telugu cinema, pointing out parallels with the Hindi cinema. Many other topics were touched upon, old books, magazines, newspapers, availability of early films etc.

There were no quizzes or singing of songs.
