He was the cinematographer and sound recordist of the early talkies in India, who trained the Indians. Here he is seen with the team from Calcutta in 1932.

 He wrote a 4 page article about his experiences in India, comparing the working conditions in Bombay and Calcutta. He also discussed how the name Tollywood came about. The article was published in the American Cinematographer, March 1932. Download and read from here

I am sure you have all read the story, started by Raju Bhartan, how Lata espied Ram Ganguly using one of the tunes from 'Barsat' for another producer, while she was in the same recording studio, and how she ratted out Ram Ganguly to Raj Kapoor, who was furious and fired him on the spot.

I now give you another version from Radhu Karmakar, the ace cinematographer, from the book, Radhu Karmakar the Painter of Lights.

According to him, Ram Ganguly quit over differences with Raj Kapoor.
