This word is not mentioned in the writings of Sikh gurus, Waris Shah or early Panjabi dictionaries. The earliest mention of this dance is in the form bangra in the Kohat district of the Pashtun area. The word bhangra itself comes from a dance form from the Rawalpindi district in 1884!
