As we know the first use of the word Bollywood is in this article by Mulk Raj Anand titled, Sex in Bollywood, in the Times of India Bombay Edition Oct 12, 1969. This was later quoted in a well-known dictionary.

However, Bombay was called 'Hollywood of India' as early as 1943, maybe even earlier.

I read this book long ago. Liked it very much. Very nice history and analysis. Even though he is obviously a fan of 30s-50s music, he did justice to people like RD Burman and AR Rehman. AS usual, while I was reading it, I was noting down the annoying mistakes with page number etc. I was hoping to review it some day.

Luckily, I recently found a review of the book by VAK Ranga Rao published in Sruti, August 2008. He did a great job and catching mostly the same mistakes that I did.
