Hindi Films, all aspects

I used to buy lots of books from India directly, but then the postage to US skyrocketed. I didn't mind that much, but people who were sending me books had a different opinion. So, I asked them to send the books to my brother Daljit Singh in Khanna, India.

Last month I requested him to send me all the accumulated books. He did so, I got them last week.

Thank you, all the dedicated fellow film researchers!

In no particular order, I thank M D Soni, Snehasis Chatterjee, Deb Prasad Das, H Ramesh Babu (via Arunkumar Deshmukh), and, of course, Daljit Singh.

It will take me weeks, no months to study them carefully. I promise that I will review all of them here. In the meantime enjoy this image.

Now You Know!

New DS-0054

I consider myself to be a well-read person about Indian cinema history. I have read practically all the books and articles written about it since the thirties.

So, it was a shock to learn about this young inventor from Jabalpur, who all by himself learned about color photography and cinematography. He communicated with the best color laboratories in the world in the 50s. He did enough independent work to get three patents awarded for this work by the Indian Patent Office. He even corresponded with Prem Adib about making commercial use of his process. Unfortunately, delays happened, Prem Adib passed away and the foreign companies with established processes and laboratories took over and dominated, specially from the mid-60s.

His story has been written in a book by the inventor's son Dr P S Shrivastava, who kindly sent me a copy of his book. His contact info is:
