Hindi Films, all aspects

The latest censorship rules were published in 1983. The rules were surprisingly similar to the one in 1927, British government being replaced by the Indian government.

However there were three big changes by now.

Outright banning was minimal, censors suggested cuts in audio, video or both and if the producers agreed to the cuts the film was passed with cuts.

There was a formal appeal process to the censor board and even to the courts, all the way to Supreme Court.

The society as well as the censors had become more liberal allowing for more violence and more sexual content. This was possible because of the rating system, where films were restricted to be shown to people of a certain age or adults or special audiences only etc.
