[12:02 PM, 4/4/2022] Pradeep Asrani Dubai: HFGK quotes Usha Khanna claiming that she composed music for Pamposh (1953), which is highly unlikely given her official date of birth. 12 Oct 1941. Official credit for Pamposh's music is given to her father, Manohar Khanna.
That footnote has been superseded by the Database Website, does not say this any more. It will be published as the 3rd edition of the book eventually.
We have added quite a lot of new stuff and revised or deleted quite a lot of the old stuff to update volume 3 with the latest information available to us. It is now on the database website and should be consulted for the latest information.
I scanned this interview you conducted and couldn't find a reference to Javed Anwar. Was it in a different interview or did I miss it?
Sorry this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ubfPOLheK4
I have to check my raw footage. It could also have been my pre interview talk with her.
Abhay knows much more than he can tell us in public

I think it's best to simply say that she was a very successful female composer of her era which was dominated by male composers. Leave the numbers out, doesn't mean anything. In the South Bhanumathi had already achieved similar success much before Usha Khanna.
Actually PAMPOSH (1953) Composed By - Mohan Lal Aima (Director Jammu & Kashmir Radio) & Father Of Satish Kaul
Please let us know the source of this information.
He could not give his name as it was a government job.
This information was given to me by M L Aima's younger brother.

Here is raw footage from my interview with Usha Khanna discussing about various aliases of her father as lyricist

Pamposh print exists! It is being presented at the next Cannes Festival. Yes, MD is M ohan Lal Aima, Let me try to get a copy https://www.festival-cannes.com/en/films/pamposh
Thank you Abhayji, very much

Some very very enjoyable songs here. Whatever she says about her father may or may not be true, but the music that her name on it is very often highly enjoyable and most compelling.

[9:53 PM, 4/4/2022] Param: All this conflicting information really puts a dent on the credibility of Usha Kanna’s word.
[10:02 PM, 4/4/2022] Param: A lot of information on ML Aima here. Was quite a big deal. http://autarmota.blogspot.com/2018/04/mohan-lal-aimathe-forgotten-pioneer.html
Yeah I also read all that after zafars remark, ultimately what counts for me is what is written in the credits of the video itself. At this time it looks like it is most probably ML Aima.
Agree. We cannot override the credit on the film/records but we should definitely provide this additional information. Makes me wonder how the Cannes listing has ML Aima’s credit. I have a feeling that there must be some official documentation of this.
My guess is that the people who have the video must have provided the information from the video credits, that's why I'm keen to get hold of a copy.
I have read somewhere that Manohar Lal Khanna, father of Usha Khanna, had worked in Nagar Nigam (Municipal Corporation) Gwalior for a brief time before moving to Bombay films. And Usha Khanna was born at Gwalior.
In the Vividh Bharti interview I posted yesterday, Usha Khanna says that he was the PA of the Maharaja of Gwalior.
[10:40 PM, 4/4/2022] Atul Varma: That could be an exaggeration. If he had been on such an important post then the people of Gwalior would have remembered him. I have lived in Gwalior. My father was a doctor and he was posted in Gajra Raja Medical College Gwalior
[10:43 PM, 4/4/2022] Atul Varma: I remember Sardar Angre, who was a very prominent person and was very close to Vijya raje scindia was the PA of Maharaja
[10:46 PM, 4/4/2022] Atul Varma: I checked Usha Khanna at Googe and found this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usha_Khanna
Interestingly there's an ML Aima who has an acting credit - http://myswar.co/album/pehla-qadam-1980. Not sure if it's the Pamposh MD. (Forgive the earlier message.)
As per ग्वालियर people Usha Khanna Jaa Nisar akhter जावेद akhter Nida fazli all has strong Gwalior connection  they have resided there even taslim fazli who is brother of Nida fazli  who wrote rafta rafta vo meri hasti ka sama ho gaye  is born in Gwalior.
Don't know how much this is true but Gwalior people claims it
This detailed blogpost - http://autarmota.blogspot.com/2018/04/mohan-lal-aimathe-forgotten-pioneer.html - is curiously silent about Aima's role in Shair-Ek-Kashmir Mahjoor. SEKM was a bilingual film released in Urdu and Kashmiri and according to this article - https://www.harmukhnews.in/specials/shair-e-kashmir-mehjoor-masterpiece-classical-cinema/ - Aima composed the music for the Kashmiri version and Dhawan composed music for the Urdu version.
Thank you, unfortunately that are absolutely no written references most of it is I know this or he told me that, I don't know what to make of that.
Avtar Mota appears to be a well-regarded person in the Kashmiri community. This is his blog. Nirupama Kotru, who is a civil servant of Kashmiri origin and who is knowledgeable about films/music shares his work on Twitter often - https://twitter.com/nirupamakotru/status/1439294126353117187. This leads me to believe that he/his blog is credible. Of course, more information is always welcome.
On Friday I have absolutely no knowledge on kashmiri famous people language literature.
I believe @Pavan Jha knows Nirupama ji. He might be able to see if she knows more / can point to other material.
Yes it was ML Aima
Pehla Qadam (1980)
Good.
A lot of information has been presented, thank you all very much. Let me try to confirm it from old books or magazines and some kashmiri friends.
Thanks! Interesting that a reputed musician does not have any music credits (officially) in Hindi films but has an acting credit.
Very very curious, I'm dying to find authenticated information about him, not from the internet, I have been burned by internet too many times
Very good, thanks.
[11:51 AM, 4/5/2022] Pavan Jha: waah!
[11:51 AM, 4/5/2022] Pavan Jha: have asked Nirupama ji on her sources if she directly know him or family
Good, thanks.
Nirupama ji :  Aimas were good family friends of ours in Srinagar from yesteryears. My Dad and uncles knew their family well

Very talented family ML Aima was a pioneer many ways
Last Year 2021 April His Son Famous Punjabi Actor SATISH KAUL Was Died
[12:08 PM, 4/5/2022] Pavan Jha: https://t.co/eQHqT1Dxwt
[12:10 PM, 4/5/2022] Pavan Jha: This has Pamposh details at length as shared by her

https://searchkashmir.org/2013/05/ezra-mirs-pamposh.html
[12:10 PM, 4/5/2022] Pavan Jha: Source : Pages from ‘The world of Ezra Mir’ (2005) by N. J. Kamath.
[12:12 PM, 4/5/2022] Pavan Jha: NirupamaK :   ML Aima is credited in this. If you could hear the music...it would be easy to tell. Not sure is Cannes will actually show it. And yes it is true Aima is said to have given music in some projects for which he didn't get credit.

VinayakR (another SME on Kashmiri culture and films) :
Actor Aima is brother of M L Aima. He did some print ads too. His son is alok Aima ..he is on FB.
I can confirm that in 1950 Mohan Lal Aima was already producing music in Kashmir for radio and for some foreign productions. Have some of the recordings.  If anyone wanted Kashmiri sound in 50s...60s...he was the only one. For authentic K sound ..the film would have used Aima.
Great, finally a book reference!
Also some clarity on Acting credits  @Param  : Actor Aima is brother of M L Aima
I am convinced! https://archive.org/details/worldofezramirmo00kama
