Hindi Films, all aspects

A two-person RMIMeet was held in East Lansing on June 28, 2023. It was attended by Pradeep Asrani and Surjit Singh. Of course, many Hindi film and song discussions took place. Among other things, I recalled how Gurcharan Singh Sandhu of UK spent months in 1996, helping with the second edition of the well-known Hindi Film Geet Kosh by traveling to Kanpur at his own expense and staying with Har Mandir Singh 'Hamraaz'. Pradeep recalled how he requested a complete list of films available with the famous MM Video and obtained all the one he did not have :) [I am happy to report that Pradeep has shared a lot of them with me to help with the Song Section of the Hindi Film Database, on the song picturization work of Volume 1961-1970, which is now in full swing, and about which I am happy to report that I just finished Mera Bhai Mera Dushman (1967).]

Guess Who!

New T15

From the never-ending treasure of K C Pingle. He posted the following in the RMIM group (Filmfare July 1957)

Within minutes, he and Vibhendu located the Variety article (March 1957)

So, before Raju Bharatan who cooked up the 25,000 songs claim, we have RK Narayan claiming to Variety that she made $200,000 a month, which the Filmfare then reduced to one-tenth :)

No wonder she was busy defending herself before the Income Tax authorities for so many years for under-reporting her income.

New T14

Thanks to Vivek Kumar, we have this page from Madhuri Magazine 1967. Basically it says that when the film was announced, the editor received many letters about the announced film title. They then interviewed Dr Bharti who denied the movie had any connection with his novel. The producers did ask for his permission to make a film on his book, but he did not give permission. Hence the producers felt constrained to include the disclaimer shown in Musing 1515.
