He was born and brought up in Hanamkonda, Warangal, Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana). He had an intense passion for singing and creating music. In his teenage he fled to Mumbai to pursue his passion. He sang in All India Radio(AIR). He lived in Mumbai for 12 years and sung duets with Geeta Roy, Uma Devi, Shamshad Begum, Zebunissa, Roshanara Begum, Khurshid, Kishori, Razia, Shanti Sharma, and K.C. Dey.
He directed several songs and did some short roles in a few movies like Patita, Daag and a Telugu movie Murali Krishna.
At one time he sang one of K.L Saigal's songs in front of him, which Saigal Saab appreciated.
During the peak time in his career, he suffered from heart disease and had to leave the film industry. After which he returned to his native place and pursued his passion by singing ghazals and participating in Urdu Mushairas.
