Very few people know that G N Joshi, an employee of the HMV since 1938 was responsible for persuading many famous classical music gurus to have their music recorded. His book Down Melody Lane is full of anecdotes. In one instance he details how HMV cheated a new record company called Young India by recording their music as version music and packaging very similarly. Gulshan Kumar did the same to them years later!

Everybody knows that the record companies cannot be trusted completely with respect to the information printed on the record. For example., for the famous song 'aayegaa 3 aane waalaa' sung by Lata, the record label says Kamini, the role played by Madhubala. One might think that for non-film records, they would be truthful. Not so, as V A K Ranga Rao declares:
